Aid for the unemployed Long duration

Active Insertion Income o RAI It is an extraordinary aid for unemployed workers with special economic needs and difficulties in finding a job, such as the long-term unemployed over 45 years of age.

The Active Insertion Income is granted for 11 months, and is received from the day after the request, once it is approved. The amount of the aid is 80% of the IPREM, that is, 463 euros per month (in 2022).

RAI requirements for those over 45 who are long-term unemployed

In order to receive the RAI, all these requirements must be met at the time of requesting the aid and must be maintained for as long as it is received:

  • Be over 45 years old and under 65.
  • Being long-term unemployed. That is, be registered as a job seeker and have been registered as unemployed for at least 12 months. This is why it is said to be aid for the long-term unemployed. For this calculation, the enrollment period is not considered to have been interrupted if you work less than 90 days. Going abroad is considered an interruption (unless it does not exceed 15 days in certain cases).
  • Have no income of your own. The person requesting the RAI must not exceed the income deficiency limit. This means that whoever requests the RAI cannot have their own income of more than 723,75 euros per month. (75% of the SMI in 2022)
  • That the applicant's family unit does not exceed the income limit. There is also a family income limit. In other words, if the person requesting the aid has a spouse or dependent children under 26 years of age, the income of all the members of the family unit must be added, divided by the number of members that form it and the result must not exceed 723,75 euros per month per member on average.
  • Not having already received this aid in the previous 365 days or having already requested it three times. The RAI is an annual aid and can be requested up to a maximum of three times, but never in a row. There must be at least one year without receiving aid between each application.
  • Have previously exhausted an unemployment benefit or an unemployment subsidy at some point before requesting this help. In other words, in order to collect the RAI, you must have contributed to unemployment at some point in your working life and have received some unemployment benefit or aid.
  • Sign the activity commitment, that is, accept the usual obligations of the unemployed when receiving aid.
  • From June 2021, it is once again mandatory for the unemployed person to carry out active job search actions (BAE) before requesting this aid. These are actions such as sending resumes, conducting job interviews, registering in job portals, etc.
It is explained in more detail in this guide: how to prove active job search in RAI applications.
