What is the Self-Employed Flat Rate and when can it be requested?

The flat rate for the self-employed consists of a measure established to promote self-employment, which is the reduced payment to Social Security of the monthly fee, for one or two years to those who carry out their activities as self-employed.

It is a bonus that considerably reduces the cost of registering for the first time as a freelancer. If you need to request the flat rate as self-employed, in Drisar Advisors We have excellent professionals to guide you and offer you the best service.

It is important clarify that the request for the flat rate must be made in the same moment in which the registration as Self-Employed before the Social Security is given.

What is the Flat Rate for freelancers? And how is it calculated?

The flat rate for freelancers consists of payment with bonus of the amount paid into social security.

El calculation of the flat rate varies during the first 24 months of activity of the self-employed person, there are currently three reduction tranches established by bonus of the minimum contribution base, always taking into account the minimum contribution rate.

The amount of the flat rate for the self-employed in 2022 is divided into:

Section 1: Up to the first 12 months you will pay a fee of approximately 60 euros (reduction of 80% on the base fee).

Section 2: From months 13 to 18: a fee of approximately 143 euros (50% reduction).

Section 3: From months 19 to 24: a fee of approximately 200 euros (30% reduction).

And after two years, the fee without bonus is almost €300 per month.

These amounts are approximate since there are several factors to take into account to determine the exact amount. This quota is determined in relation to the minimum contribution base (960,6 euros: 294 euros per month), if it is decided to contribute for a higher base, these quotas will also increase.

The use of this rate was introduced a few years ago and from that moment until now it has been well accepted, since it has benefited millions of self-employed people over the years.

However, it is possible that the benefit of the flat rate will cease to exist and be replaced by the Real Income Contribution System, but until now the access to the payment of this fee is still valid.

Who can request the Flat Rate for freelancers?

The flat rate is available for freelancers who register for the first time and applies during the first 24 months, as long as these requirements are met:

  • They cannot have been discharged during the last two years.
  • They must not have debts with the Treasury or Social Security.
  • They cannot be autonomous collaborators.

The self-employed who in previous years had the benefit of the flat rate, have the possibility of requesting it again, but it is important that they have elapsed three years since they retired as self-employed.

In the event that the self-employed person is in a multi-activity situation, thanks to the Entrepreneurs Law the application of bonuses of 50% of the monthly fee was introduced, in such a way that The self-employed person can choose between the reduction of the contribution base for multiple activities and the flat rate.

Since September 2020, thanks to a change in Social Security due to Supreme Court rulings, corporate self-employed They can also access the benefit offered by the Flat Rate.
